Hot Tomato Smoothie

A spicy, smooth, and hearty smoothie! Blend all the ingredients in a blender until smooth. 1 & 1/2 teaspoons powdered dehydrated tomato... Hot Tomato Smoothie

  • Serves Makes 1 to 2 servings
  • Prep Time 5 minutes
  • Total Time 5m

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 5 ice cubes
  • 1 & 1/2 teaspoons powdered dehydrated tomato
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon powdered dehydrated habanero chilli pepper

Instructions

  1. A quarter teaspoon of habanero powder is not a garnish. Dried chilli is concentrated far past the fresh pod, so measure it level and put in less than that the first time you make this.
  2. Slake the tomato powder in the water before the ice arrives. It is fine enough to float and will ride on the surface of a cold jug indefinitely.
  3. Give it five minutes to swell. What was a thin orange liquid thickens into something with body, and that body is the whole difference between this and chilli water.
  4. Blend the ice in last and only long enough to break it down. The name refers to the chilli — overworking it warms the drink and it stops being refreshing.
  5. Taste with a clean spoon each time rather than sipping from the jug. Capsaicin builds on the tongue and by the third sip you cannot judge it any more.
  6. Pour it immediately. Tomato solids drop out quickly, and the last mouthful in a glass left standing is nearly all heat.
