Unlike kibble, which undergoes processing at high temperatures, dehydrated pet food or treats are carefully crafted at lower temperatures, allowing for a gradual moisture removal process that preserves the food's nutritional value and flavour. Making dehydrated pet food or treats doesn’t include any harmful chemicals, preservatives, fillers or by-products that can be found in dry dog food or store-bought treats either, which results in a healthier and more nutrient-rich option for a pet’s diet, ultimately promoting overall health and well-being.
When it comes to drying times for meat, bones, offal and offcuts, it really depends on the type of meat or item you’re dehydrating and how it’s cut. Thinner slices will take less time than chunks of meat, and every piece must be fully dry before storage to prevent spoilage. Drying temperature alone is not a complete food-safety process: if your recipe uses a heating stage, confirm the meat’s internal temperature with a food thermometer.
*Temperatures below are drying-stage figures for texture, not a complete food-safety process. See the food-safety section.
